The City of Irvine recognizes young people as valued and capable members of our community. The goal of the Middle School Program is to engage youth in positive social-recreational activities, on-campus prevention and education campaigns, and character development programs. Youth are encouraged to participate in the development and implementation of programs that focus on community service (Youth Action Team), personal development, and social recreation. Services are provided in cooperation with the Irvine Unified School District.
High School Youth Action Team
The High School Youth Action Team (HSYAT) provides high school students the opportunity to participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of services for their peers. The program consists of student representatives from local high schools who organize teen activities and represent their peers at various community groups.
The program’s objectives include:
What is Street Rehabilitation (Asphalt Paving)?
Street Rehabilitation (Asphalt Paving) consists of cold milling, installation of pavement fabric and an asphalt concrete overlay.
Cold Milling (also referred to as grinding) is the controlled removal of the surface of the existing pavement to a pre-determined depth with specially designed milling equipment.
What is Slurry Seal?
Slurry Seal is a mixture of emulsified asphalt (oil), water, fine crushed rock and sand. It is a surface applied treatment designed to extend the life of existing streets in two ways. It helps to maintain the integrity of the roadway by filling surface cracks and voids. By replenishing roadway surface oils, it also acts as a water repellent cap, shedding water into the gutters and preventing water damage to the subsurface of the street.
To report problems with streetlights, please contact Southern California Edison (SCE) at 1-800-611-1911 or visit the Report a Streetlight Outage page at SCE.
For concerns related to the disposal of green waste, trash, or recyclables, please contact Waste Management of Orange County or call 949-642-1191.
What is Composting?
Composting is nature’s process of recycling decomposed organic matter. By composting your food scraps, yard trimmings and other organic waste, you are continuing nature’s cycle and speeding up the process of converting organic waste back into nutritious soil.
Meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month (excluding December) at the Lakeview Senior Center.
For directions, please call 949-724-6900.
